On Sunday November 1, the Uppercut Deluxe team hosted an attempt to break the Movember record for the number of cut throat shaves performed by a team of barbers in a single day – all in support of Movember. The Movember Shave Down was hosted at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi, with help from Rolling Stone Magazine and the Movember Foundation.

We had ten, fully decked out shaving stations manned by a team of talented barbers from across Australia and New Zealand, including Jimmy Figgs (Newcastle), Maloney’s Barbershop (Auckland), Bare Bones Barbershop (Brisbane), Hair by Tommy J (Sydney), and Johnny Voodoos (Brisbane). The team went all out, working non-stop from 9am through to 7pm, in an effort to chase down the record number of cut throat shaves set in Amsterdam in 2014.

We planned a full day of fun to keep the momentum going. Birra Morretti handed out beers to everyone who volunteered for a shave, Steen Jones decorated the venue with his iconic art, Gillette donated razors for our goody bags and Rolling Stone organised a night of live music, with performances from Polish Club, I know Leopard, Kingswood, The Delta Riggs and Steve Smyth.

The day kicked off at 8am with INXS legend Kirk Pengilly getting his iconic mo shaved off by his wife and 7-time World Surfing Championship winner, Layne Beachley, in front of the cameras and media.

Some 11 hours later, we reached the grand total of 167 shaves – breaking the previous record of 163.
